Yusuf Bektas has served as the proud Dean of Utica Academy of Science High School since Spring of 2023. Mr. Bektas has been part of the SANY family since April 2018 when he taught math courses in SAS Middle and High School. He held administrative positions in Syracuse and Utica until he was appointed dean of the UAS High School. Mr. Bektas earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education, Master's in Adolescence Education (Grades 7-12) and a Master's in Educational Leadership. He also received a New York State Mathematics 7-12 Professional Teaching Certificate and a New York State School Building Leader Certificate.

Since 1999, Mr. Bektas has worked in various countries as a teacher and school leader. He taught in Russia, Thailand, and Denmark before coming to the USA. He taught High School mathematics courses, trained students for the Russian Math Olympiads, and held academic dean and school principal positions for K-12 schools. Mr. Bektas’ students won several medals in regional math olympiads in Russia. He was awarded recognition as a teacher of the year several times. He was on an organizing committee for the International Festival of Language and Culture activities in Thailand. Mr. Bektas has also volunteered in intercultural and educational projects.

Mr. Bektas is married with three children. He likes reading and traveling. He volunteers in community organizations focusing on intercultural and educational projects. His favorite color is blue.
