Celebrating School Choice at SANY

SNAY Celebrates the Freedom of School Choice

Friday, January 30th, 2026: Each year, National School Choice Week shines a spotlight on the importance of giving families access to high-quality public education options that meet their children's unique needs. At the Science Academies of New York (SANY), school choice is more than a policy, it is a promise to families across Syracuse, Utica, and Rochester that every child deserves an excellent education and the opportunity to thrive.

What Is National School Choice Week?

National School Choice Week is a nationwide celebration that highlights the power of education options, including public charter schools, district schools, magnet schools, private schools, and homeschooling. The week brings together educators, families, students, and community partners to recognize that when families are empowered to choose the right educational environment, students succeed.

Public charter schools like SANY play a vital role in this landscape by offering tuition-free, high-quality educational options open to all students.

School Choice at SANY

At SANY, school choice means providing innovative, student-centered learning environments where scholars are academically challenged, socially supported, and prepared for life beyond high school. Across our elementary, middle, and high schools, we focus on:

  • Academic Excellence: Rigorous instruction grounded in science, literacy, and critical thinking skills.

  • Whole-Child Development: Supporting students’ social-emotional growth, character development, and well-being.

  • Equity and Access: Ensuring all students—regardless of background—have access to high-quality education.

  • College and Career Readiness: Preparing graduates with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for college, careers, and active citizenship.

Our schools are designed to meet students where they are and help them grow into well-rounded individuals who are ready to succeed in an ever-changing world.

Why School Choice Matters

School choice empowers families to select schools that align with their values, expectations, and their child’s learning needs. When families have options, schools are encouraged to innovate, collaborate, and continuously improve.

For SANY families, school choice means:

  • Smaller learning communities with strong relationships

  • Dedicated educators committed to student success

  • Enriching opportunities in STEM, literacy, arts, and athletics

  • A supportive school culture that celebrates diversity and achievement

Celebrating National School Choice Week at SANY

During National School Choice Week, our schools proudly join thousands across the country in celebrating the impact of educational choice. From classroom activities and spirit days to community events and family engagement opportunities, the week is a chance to reflect on how far our scholars have come and to look ahead to the bright futures they are building.

Most importantly, National School Choice Week is about celebrating our students—their curiosity, resilience, and accomplishments—and the families who partner with us every step of the way.

Join the SANY Community

As a network of public, tuition-free charter schools, SANY is proud to offer families a choice that prioritizes academic excellence, equity, and opportunity. National School Choice Week reminds us that when families are empowered with options, students benefit—and communities grow stronger.
